Fundraisers for Garneau Scholarship

RUMFORD -- The Mtn. Valley High School Athletic Boosters and the Class 0f 2011 are teaming up to honor a classmate of theirs.

As most of us remember, Danny Garneau passed away last year after fighting a long battle with leukemia.

The Class of 2011 and the MVHS Boosters are raising money to go towards The Danny Garneau Scholarship. They have a couple of fundraisers that will be happening at the high school.

One is "Pennies from Heaven." Each class will be having a "penny wars" competition to raise money. The class that raises the most will be rewarded (to be determined at a later time). The other is they are selling chocolate bars for a $1 each. You can purchase the candy bars from any of the students or from the Office at the high school.

They have a committee, made up of a few of Danny's friends and they have come up with the criteria for the scholarship and they, along MVHS Principal Matt Gilbert and the president of the Boosters, will determine the amount and who the recipient of the scholarship will be.

The hope is for this to become an annual scholarship.

Any businesses, families, or individuals that would like to donate to the scholarship can do so by sending their donation to the high school, care of the MVHS Athletic Boosters. For more information, contact Leanne at 364-0890.
