Invitational hoop tourney

RIVER VALLEY -- The Mountain Valley Athletic Boosters, in conjunction with the MV Rec Men's Basketball League, will be holding their annual invitational basketball tournament on March 30, 31 and April 1 at Mountain Valley High School and Mountain Valley Middle School.

This tournament will consist of an 16 teams divided into A and B divisions based on skill and competition level. There will be a minimum of three round robin games on Friday and Saturday, followed by playoff rounds on Sunday. Games will consist of two 20-minute running halves with stop time in the last two minutes of each half. All tourney teams for each division are awarded. There will also be local shop and corporate giveaways.

Included are shooting contests, foul shooting, three point competition and a new skills shooting event. There will be evening activities at local establishments in Rumford. The Elks Club will also be hosting a Saturday evening buffet and dance and will be available throughout the tournament serving lunch items. The Boosters will also be serving drinks and snacks. There will be discounts for lodging for out of town teams.

This tournament is run every year during the last week of March to coincide with the NCAA final four. This tournament has been run since the early 1980's. It is a fund raising event for the benefit of The Mountain Valley Athletic Boosters.

The entry fee is $375, referees, scorers and timers for the event will be provided.
