Thrashers off to great start
RUMFORD -- The Thrashers are off to a great start in GRCC floor hockey season with a 4-0 record after two weeks of play.
Scoring goals in the first game for the Thrashers were Jacob Blanchard, Cody Hemingway, Nolan Downs, Alex Gorham, Noah Breton and Jacob Lord.
Making some nice saves as the Thrashers' goalies were Jarod Downs, TJ Payne and Lucas Drapeau. Very strong defense from Keyleigh Dupuis and Lucas made it tough for their opponents to hit the back of the net.
The second game for the Thrashers once again went in their favor improving their record to 2-0. Scoring goals in this game were Breton, Gorham, Blanchard and Hemingway. Payne had some great saves in the first two periods, denying anything that came his way. Nolan Downs took over as goalie in the third period with the same results as the previous two.
Outstanding defense by Lord, Drapeau, Dupuis and Jarod Downs.
All players worked very well together as a team and showed great sportsmanship!
Coaches players of the week for week one are Alex Gorham as Alex played excellent offense and defense while scoring in both games. Alex's great attitude and sportsmanship makes him a pleasure to be around for both players and coaches.
Second player of the week is TJ Payne for his outstanding effort as a first time goalie and hockey player. TJ had many great saves in their first game but shutout his opponents in the second game.
Goals for the second week's competitions were "Superstar" Blanchard, Breton, Gorham, N. Downs, Lord and Hemingway, with outstanding assists by Drapeau, Dupuis, J. Downs and Payne.
Doing an unbelievable job protecting the nets this week were the thrashers starting goalie Payne with many great stops. Lord and N. Downs once again did a great job as goalie with some good saves.
Players of this weeks games are Jacob Blanchard and Cody Hemingway. Blanchard has played both offense and defense for the Thrashers and is an all around great athlete. He is the team's leading scorer with 16 goals after just four games, scoring five of them in a single game with a good number of assists.
Blanchard continues to show outstanding leadership and sets good examples for the younger players in terms of sportsmanship.
Hemingway is another player of the week because of his ability to shine on both sides of the court. Cody has a great attitude and is truly a remarkable athlete as well. At this time Hemingway has hit the back of the net over 10 times, scoring four goals in a single game. Like so many athletes in our community, Hemingway has also shown great sportsmanship and remains to have a very positive attitude.
