TRAINING AIDE FOR SKATING -- Don Dragoon is seen at the Rumford skating rink with a device called Gliding Stars. It may look like a walker, but it actually glides across the ice and can be used by the elderly, handicapped and beginner to learn how to skate as it develops confidence through balance. Dragoon, now 80, used to skate many years ago and decided to take up skating again. When members of the Rumford Parks Commission noticed he was using a hockey net to balance himself at the rink, they checked into and purchase this device. For the next skating season, there will be two devices in different sizes available. (Times photo by Bruce Farrin)
