Falcons' Woods takes Class B skimeister

RUMFORD -- Nick Woods of Mountain Valley followed up on his MVC skimeister crown by earning the Class B skimeister title at Black Mountain on Thursday.

In the giant slalom, Woods placed 17th, then 19th in the Nordic freestyle, 10th in the slalom and 29th in the cross-country classical race for a total of 75 points. Teammate Lance Richard placed sixth in the skimeister at 166.

For the girls' skimeister, the Falcons' Kym Couch placed fourth with 152 points.

Overall, the Falmouth boys defeated Yarmouth. For the girls, Yarmouth outdistanced second-place Falmouth.

Mtn. Valley results included the following:

Boys' cross-country classical: Woods placed 29th at 16:47, Richard in 49th at 19:58.6, and Erich Zurhorst in 53rd at 21:52.

Girls' cross-country classical: Couch in 41st at 22:46.6, Hannah LaPointe in 45th at 23:19, Samantha Glover in 46th at 23:50.5, Katherine Mills in 58th at 26:31.9 and Mercedes Gurney in 60th at 33:49.

Boys' giant slalom results: Nate Nicols in 6th at 1:37.80, Nate Papsadora in 16th at 1:42.50, Woods in 17th 1:43.00, David Adley in 18th at 1:43.80, Ian Sweetser in 22nd at 1:45.90, Eric Billings in 31st at 1:48.80 and Richard in 43rd at 2:01.80.

Freestyle: Woods in 19th at 14:05, Richard in 53rd at 18:13.2, Zurhorst in 56th at 20:37.8, Andrew Phelps in 57th at 21:21.0 and Kyle Gauvin in 60th at 24:32.8.

Girls' giant slalom: Kera Miller in third at 1:40.77, Courtney Carlson in sixth at 1:44.60, Katie Collette in 17th at 1:53.58, Rebecca Maifeld in 26th at 1:59.52, Elizabeth Adley in 36th at 2:06.61 and Couch in 40th at 2:10.53.

Boys' slalom: Woods in 10th at 1:23.92, Darren Jodrey in 17th at 1:27.77, Richard in 21st at 1:35.30, Sweetser in 22nd at 1:36.09, Nicols in 24th at 1:39.52 and Papsadora in 41st at 2:13.28.
