International Snowshoe Championships on tap

LEWISTON -- Le Paresseux Snowshoe Club of Rumford will host the 103rd International Snowshoe Championship in Lewiston this Friday through Sunday.

The members of the championship committee have been working hard to make plans for the upcoming event. There will be snowshoers attending from Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Quebec, Canada, Ontario, Canada and Maine.

The weekend will start off on Friday with registrations from 2-6 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., with the an opening ceremony at 8 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom of the Ramada Inn in Lewiston following by the Coronation Ball at 10 p.m., where they will be crowning a king, queen and a prince and princess of the championship. They have seven women competing for the title of queen and eight for the title of king.

At 9 a.m. Saturday, there will be snowshoe races at the Lewiston Armory on Central Avenue. There will be a break at noon and the races will continue at 1:30 p.m.

At 6 p.m. that evening, there will be a parade at the Ramada Inn, with the club competing for plaques and trophies. The parade will be followed by a dance at the Ramada Inn Grand Ballroom, with music by Noel Palmer and the Don Levesque Band.

At 11:30 a.m. Sunday, there will be a brunch for all who registered for the championship in the Grand Ballroom followed by the presentation of awards for the weekend events.

Le Paresseux Club is also celebrating their 83rd year as a snowshoe club.
